*Responsibilities and Duties* * Maintain knowledge of Med-Allergy’s FUSED PRACTICE values: Focus, Unity, Safety, Expertise/Excellence, Diversity, Passion, Respect, Act, Collaborate, Teamwork, Integrity, Communicate and Energy.
* Ensure and verify proper handling and submission of all billing and documentation to the appropriate office.
* Assist with completion of paperwork, ensure patient insurance eligibility, pre-authorization, or referrals have been verified prior to testing and/or immunotherapy treatment.
* Has a understanding of HIPAA rules and regulations and apply it in daily tasks.
* Demonstrates strong communication skills by speaking with patients clearly about symptoms, management and maintaining knowledge on preparing medications like allergy serums and injections.
* Develops and maintain professional relationships with physicians, medical office staff, managers, and team leads.
* Apply strong management skills by maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, receiving and security of inventory required by policy.
* Use the Med-Allergy guidelines and protocols to demonstrate appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the patient's care.
* Coordinates the daily operations of the allergy clinic.
* Ensures the operations of the clinic run smoothly and ensures departmental policies and procedures are maintained and adhered to.
* Oversees the retention of office and medical supplies, utilizes appropriate testing techniques, implements environmental control, delivery of allergy pharmacotherapy and delivery of safe immunotherapy for patients within the office.
* Ensures appropriate documentation of services rendered by the allergy coordinator in a manner acceptable in healthcare facilities.
* Demonstrates knowledge of medical treatment, patient care, healthcare compliance and regulatory policy and procedure per Med-Allergy guidelines.
* Interview patients regarding medical, allergy and asthmatic history (symptoms).
* Screen patients for specialist referral.
Patients that do not qualify for Med-Allergy testing includes patients that are actively pregnant, patients with uncontrolled asthma, patients that have had previous anaphylaxis, and patients that are beta blockers for cardiac reasons that cannot switch to a different medication.
* Apply allergy skin prick testing and intradermal testing on children and adults and accurately read results.
* Mix patient specific immunotherapy treatment vials (On site dilutions).
* Liaise with office staff and providers in a professional and polite manner.
* Administer immunotherapy injections to patients following appropriate schedules set forth in Med-Allergy guidelines.
* Be prepared to visit multiple offices within a 30 mile radius of your city.
* Contact potential allergy testing patients by phone and utilize a script to set up testing and follow up appointments as needed.
* Screen upcoming clinic patients for those that may benefit from immunotherapy, as directed by clinic.
* Perform patient education regarding the benefits of allergy treatment as well as EpiPen education.
* Never contact patients from your cell phone and ensure that all patient phone contact is via clinic landline.
* Perform peak flow testing and interpreting results.
* Re-order serum for each patient whose serum is going to expire.
* Use Med-allergy’s dashboard tool provided to keep up with missed appointments, serum refills and reminder phone calls.
* Educate other facilities about Med-Allergy protocols if patient is transferred to an outside facility.
* Monitor/maintain refrigerator temperature, emergency kits, and facility crash carts.
Maintain refrigerator temperature logs along with expiration dates of supplies in emergency kits.
* Perform vital signs.
* Have knowledge about anaphylaxis vs vasovagal reactions.
What are they and what makes them different? Be able to follow protocol provided for each reaction.
* Complete annual competency courses required by Med-Allergy and healthcare system (if applicable).
Pass all checkoffs from supervisor to confirm competency in allergy skill set.
* Ability to prioritize multiple tasks at once, good communication skills, outstanding reading, writing and organization skills, detail-oriented personality, sense of responsibility and compassion, creative thinking and problem-solving skills to help determine the cause, symptoms and reactions a patient may be encountering.
